Young Leaders Programme:
Over forty established professionals from the United Kingdom and the United States participated in the inaugural Atlantic Bridge Young Leaders Programme.
During the course of the four day program, participants heard from a vast number of prominent speakers including Boris Johnson, Editor of The Spectator, historian Andrew Roberts, Sir Malcolm Rifkind, Lord Tebbit, Robert George and John Fund.
Participants visited the Oxford Union, House of Commons and Royal Ascot Racecourse as part of the conference.
The week’s activities culminated with a keynote speech made by Newt Gingrich, Former Speaker of the US House of Representatives.

Speakers at the Virgin Atlantic sponsored conference included Rod Eddington, Chief Executive of British Airways.

Lady Thatcher and Dr. Liam Fox MP headlined The Atlantic Bridge dinner at The St. Regis Hotel, New York.
The event was held at the St. Regis Hotel in New York City to raise funds for The Atlantic Bridge.
Other special guests included the Rt Hon Michael Ancram QC MP, and The Rt Hon Michael Howard QC MP.

Atlantic Bridge Conference, Scientific Research and Medical Provision: The Anglo-American Dynamic
The Atlantic Bridge hosted a conference on the future of Biotech, Pharmaceuticals and the Life Sciences at Merton College, Oxford on 10th May 2003. The conference included several panels covering topics of interest to the transatlantic medical and economic communities.
Mr. Robert MacLaren, DPhil FRCS, Lecturer, Merton College hosted the conference and provided the Welcome Address.
Grace-Marie Turner, President, The Galen Institute and Dr. Liam Fox MP, Shadow Secretary of State for Health discussed the current state of UK health care and the future of the NHS.
Spiro Rombotis, Chief Executive, Cyclacel Ltd and Dr. David J. Brickwood, VP of Government Affairs, Johnson & Johnson discussed the convergence between biotech and the pharmaceutical industry.
Dr. Peter R. Farrow, Senior Director of Science Policy, Pfizer Global Research and Development then discussed the damaging effects of the European brain drain on Research and Development in the UK.
The seminar concluded with a presentation on the threats to pharmaceutical development by Dr. Timothy Morris, Head of Comparative Medicine, GlaxoSmithKline. |
