Our Aim
The Atlantic Bridge was founded by Dr. Liam Fox MP in 1997 as a result of his long-standing interest in Anglo-American relations. The Atlantic Bridge's mission is to preserve and promote the "Special Relationship" exemplified by the Reagan-Thatcher partnership of the 1980s. Its goal is to become the premier Anglo-American voice advocating free market principles to a broad range of common issues. To those ends, The Atlantic Bridge works to re-establish and foster a strong, well-positioned network of like-minded people in business, politics, academia, law and journalism on both sides of the Atlantic. This network promotes the principles of free trade, individual liberty, and seeks to find solutions to complex problems facing both societies.
How we achieve our aim
- Develop and publicize new and relevant policy ideas, building on the common thinking which underpins the natural trans-Atlantic alliance between Britain and America and stimulating discussion on how best to develop these policy ideas further.
- Further public education on both sides of the Atlantic in areas of common interest, focusing particularly but not exclusively on free trade, economics, health and science.
- By holding a series of political and social events, we hope to establish both a strong cross-fertilization of ideas and effective personal links and relationships between people of like-minded views in both the United States and Great Britain.
